Iraq
American Involvement
On
March 19, 2003, United States President George Bush declared war on
Iraq and launches the invasion. This declaration of war is the result of
a radical terrorist attack that occurred September 9th, 2001; two
planes were hi-jacked and used to crash into New York City's twin towers
also known as the World Trade Center. It is believed that the Iraqi
terrorists saw this as a U.S. symbol of wealth and status, therefore
becoming a target. On the same day, another plane crashed into the
Pentagon. One other plane was also meant to crash into the White House
of Washington, D.C., but crashed.
But
the feuding between the U.S. and Iraq had long since been raging before
these attacks. America is extremely disliked by the Iraqi's for a
number of reasons. 1.) America supports Israel, whom Iraq has been
fighting over for the Holy Land for thousands of years. 2.) The Iraqi's
have great disdain for American culture and Christianity, therefore the
Islamic extremists have organized a terrorist group known as Al-Qaeda.
On
May 2nd, 2011, the leader of Al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden was killed by
U.S. Navy seals. Unfortunately, the multi-national terrorist group is
still in form, and has been continuing to grow since its first formation
in August of 1988.
